The Tin Man from Wide Angle Tasmania on Vimeo.

James “The Philosopher” Smith was a legendary prospector who in 1871 discovered the world’s then-largest tin mine. This recreation documentary begins with Smith in a stark hospital bed seven minutes away from his last breath. As his son reads him a letter hailing him as ‘the father of Tasmania’ and proposing the erection of a monument, the old man drifts off into his memories of lone exploration at the wild frontier of north-west Tasmania.
