James, Daniel

Role(s) / Industry:

Daniel James is an award winning filmmaker, who began his filmmaking journey during early high school. He continued to follow his new found passion when he went on to study at Rosny College’s highly acclaimed V.E.T Television Production course in Hobart, Tasmania.

In his first year, he won the Best Director Award for his short film Mirror Me, Son at Rosny’s annual Film/Television production Awards in 2009. He followed on with his short film 'The Silence of Whitewater' that headlined the 2011 MyState Student Film Festival, winning four major awards including Best Screenplay and Best Overall Film. The film has since gone on to win three more awards including Best Director and Best Film in the Student Category of the 2012 Canberra Short Film Festival and nominated for Best Youth Short film at the 2012 St. Kilda Film Festival.
In 2012, Daniel was one of three applicants selected to participate in Screen Tasmania's SilverScreen Program. This professional development program is designed to advance skill levels and achieve employment outcomes in the Film and Television industry. Daniel has recently expanded into working as an Assistant Director on various the short and feature films, including the Screen Australia produced short film 'Dibs' (directed by Adam Ransley), The Jelly Wrestler (Rebecca Thomson/Rogan Brown) and the upcoming tasmanian feature film 'Macbeth 1040AD'.

In recent times, Daniel's love for cinema has grown from a passion into a life purpose. His mission is to develop his own unique approach to storytelling that explores deeply into the realms of human philosophy and spirituality, and to eventually create several artistically bold Feature Films and T.V. Series that captivate and challenge audiences throughout the modern world.
