Daniel James

Daniel is a Tasmanian based Director, Writer, Editor and Videographer. His early passion for filmmaking earned him awards for 'The Silence of Whitewater' at Tasmania's Mystate Student Film Festival in 2011 and Canberra Short Film Festival in the Students Category for Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Film. Since then his films screened and nominated at national and international film festivals, including Tropfest, St. Kilda Film Festival Melbourne, The Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival and Portland Comedy film festival in the USA.

Since then Daniel has gone on to earn a Director's Attachment position on Foxtel/Porchlight Films award winning Television series 'The Kettering Incident' working with renowned Australian Director, Rowan Woods and in 2016 Daniel extended his skills in an Art Department Attachment on the ABC Television Series 'Rosehaven Season 1'. He was also a recipient of Screen Tasmania's funded professional development initiative SilverScreen. This professional Development initiative is designed to advance skill levels and achieve employment outcomes in the Australian Film and Television Industry.

After leaving Tasmania in 2015 Daniel has since graduated with a Diploma in Screen and Media from Swinburne University of Technology and a Graduate Certificate in Directing from the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney.

Alongside his Directing aspirations, Daniel works as a Freelance Videographer and Video Editor, specialising in variety of Promotional Content, Short Films and TVCs products. He has created video content for Profit and not for profit organisations. His most recent clients include JPC Youth, Make Runs Maxi, Devils Brewery and Hydro Tasmania.
