‘Supported by Screen Tasmania’s Industry Attachments and Traineeships Program

About GRIT

GRIT is a project that uses story to connect Tasmanians and improve community resilience as we recover and rebuild from COVID-19. Supported by the Tasmanian Community Fund, the GRIT project will produce 12 short films that will tour regional towns and bring communities together to share in a cultural and creative experience. Importantly, the project connects with the extraordinary network of organisations that support our community and tackle social issues that have been exacerbated by COVID-19.

These films will become a valued resource for the community sector to amplify their missions in the COVID recovery process. The GRIT project is designed to provide access to the films and tools to use them effectively. GRIT includes three distinct parts:

  • Collect, curate and share images, and personal stories of grit from Tasmanians
  • Commission, produce and screen 12 short films that explore the concept of resilience
  • Design and deliver an impact strategy that supports change using the films within the broader community

In commissioning the 12 films Wide Angle aims to:

  • Showcase the excellence of Tasmanian filmmakers
  • Provide a platform for Tasmanian filmmakers to create a work that can support social change
  • Gain ongoing support for this model of local screen production and distribution.
