Take a sneak peek at Wide Angle Tasmania's new centre for screen at 6 Washington Street South Hobart!
After providing a successful EOI to City of Hobart to lease this amazing space, we are moving through the processes to open the doors.
Support our application to Council for Change of Use
We've applied to Council to create a centre where WAT can run workshops, hire out film equipment, create a moving image gallery and a screening space for small audiences... a place for Tassie screen creatives to make, watch and celebrate our screen stories.
We'd love to hear your thoughts - email WAT's Executive Director Abi Binning or call us on 6223 8344.
To support our application, it would be wonderful if you could complete and mail this form OR lodge your representation to Council online here before July 10, 2017. We want our centre to add to the vibrancy of the South Hobart precinct - so representations from South Hobart residents are really helpful.
Fit-out of the Screening/Maker Space, Gallery and Offices
We're fitting out the existing hall to create a beautiful screening room to seat up to 75 people... imagine cast and crew screenings, visiting filmmaker Q&A sessions and small scale screenings of works that you can't access in main stream cinemas.
We'll be able to empty the hall to provide a 10x10 m space for you to create your screen works, for workshops and meetings.Check out the floorpan above to see how the other spaces can be used.
We have already received very generous donations of:
- a 4K projector
- large projection screen
- theatre lights (from State Growth)
- office tables and leather office chairs (Blue Rocket Productions)
We're on the hunt for items to create a stylish space for our community, including:
- Seats - beautiful theatre chairs, comfy stackable chairs, bean bags and deck chairs
- armchairs and lounges for the reception spaces
- a lighting mixer
- audio system - speakers and sub-woofer
- 60" TV for gallery space
- a bar (for refreshments)
- large carpet rolls that we can make into rugs
- crockery and cutlery
- outdoor furniture
Donated items or suggestions of possibilities would be greatly appreciated.
Help to open and move
As we get closer to moving, we'd love any offers of help to create the space and move the WAT office and equipment.
If you have some spare time and would like to be part of a working bee, please let us know. You can click through here to register your interest in helping - or let us know by phone or email.
We have a small budget to cover the cost of the fit-out - but any donations of goods, services or cash will allow us to put those funds towards providing opportunities for the screen community.
All donations are tax deductible and can be made online here or by contacting us at the office.
