| Beverley Jefferson - General Manager
Bev Jefferson has a long background in the arts as both a practitioner and arts manager. In 1995 Bev completed a Bachelor of Arts at Latrobe University, and in 2002 she graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Graduate Diploma in Film and TV (Documentary). She is currently studying post-graduate Public Policy through the University of Tasmania. Bev has performed many roles including Executive Officer of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra, Producer for Circus Elysium, Marketing Manager for the Australian Script Centre, Executive Officer of the Tasmanian Arts Council, and Manager of the Tenants’ Union of Tasmania. Bev also works part-time as a Producer with Tasmanian film and TV production company, Edward Street Films, and has worked on TV documentary series Stories from the Stone Age and The Passionate Apprentices. Bev has served on the boards of Regional Arts Australia and the Tenants’ Union of Tasmania, and is currently a member of the board of the Tasmanian Writers’ Centre and Screen Development Australia. Jemma Gates - Office Manager
Jemma brings to Wide Angle a wide range of administrative, media and event management skills. She has strong links with the performing arts and screen industries in Tasmania, having worked professionally as an actor for both stage and screen. She has also been involved in various production roles on film and television projects such as Hells Gates and Cable. Jemma also works part-time for the ABC.
Jo Collins - Office Administrator
Jo’s main involvement with the film and television industries has been through her work in costume. She has been involved with projects as varied as The Last Confessions of Alexander Pearce and The Matrix II & III. Jo also runs her own small business and works part-time for the Tasmanian Writers’ Centre.
Graham Gates - Chair
Graham Gates has been President of Wide Angle Tasmania since incorporation on January 13th 2005.
Graham is the Director of the Rosny College television production course and is a highly respected film teacher with a background in commercial television. He has held many roles across numerous organizations including Lecturer in Television Journalism at the University of Tasmania , State Moderator in Media for the Tasmanian Department of Education, VET Co-ordinator for Television Tasmania, Board Member of Edge Radio and he is a former Board member of Screen Tasmania .
Graham has been a passionate supporter of screen training initiatives for decades, and was a founding member of the project Mobile Media Access Facility which evolved into Wide Angle Tasmania.

Tony De Cesare GAICD - Deputy Chair
Tony De Cesare has been a member of the Board of Wide Angle Tasmania since incorporation on January 13th 2005 .
Since 2004 Tony has held the position of Manager Tasmania, ABC Resources, responsible for up to ninety operational staff and the facilities used in the production of Studio, Outside Broadcast and Field based program production. Tasmania produces or contributes to a wide variety of ABC programs including Gardening Australia, Collectors, Sport, News, 7.30 Report, Stateline, Catalyst, New Inventors, Landline, Australian Story and many others. Tony is also responsible for delivering ABC Television and Radio output for distribution and transmission across the state.
Tony began his media career in 1984 as a trainee at the ABC in Hobart; learning all areas of TV production, and soon specialising in camera. Early work was in Hobart, Canberra and Launceston for News and Current Affairs, shooting on many formats including 16mm film, BVU, and Betacam. Progressing in 1989 to production SP Betacam, for programs as diverse as Landline, Four Corners, Stateline, Gardening Australia, All in a Day’s Work, Quantum, Catalyst, 7.30 Report, Lateline, and Foreign Correspondent.
His career has included both short and long term postings overseas for the ABC, in Russia, Israel, Europe, the Middle East, Somalia, Qatar and Southern Iraq for the second Gulf War. Tony has been DOP on a number of documentaries resulting in ACS Gold Awards as well as a Gold Award at the New York Festival for the ABC dramatised documentary Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite.
A strong believer in personal development, Tony has completed a Leadership program at the Australian Graduate School of Management.

Larry Hude - Treasurer
Larry Hude has been Treasurer of Wide Angle Tasmania since April 11th 2006.
Larry has specific expertise in Accounting, Systems, Training, Information Technology – Networking, Project Management, Risk Management and Business Planning. Employed at Hydro Tasmania in Consulting – Sustainable Energy Group Larry is responsible for project delivery in Consulting for the Wind, Environmental, Water Management, Catchments and Resource Monitoring teams.
Larry is responsible for the financial reporting, business systems, financial control and financial and strategic planning at Wide Angle.

Dianne Nicol – Secretary & Public Officer
Dianne Nicol has been a member of the Board of Wide Angle Tasmania since July 3rd 2007.
Dianne Nicol is a Professor in the Law Faculty at the University of Tasmania. Dianne has detailed knowledge of media law theory, and has been teaching two media law subjects at the tertiary level for the past six years. She also lectures in intellectual property law and information technology law, and Foundations of Media and IT Law core unit for journalism and information systems students.
Dianne is WAT’s in-house expert on legal issues for the media. Dianne looks forward to increasing her knowledge of Wide Angle Tasmania’s role in the media community and broader community.
Sharon Connolly - Board Member
Sharon Connolly has been a member of the Board of Wide Angle Tasmania since incorporation on January 13th 2005. Sharon has more than 25 years experience in the Australian film and television industry. Currently Story Editor with ABC TV’s Compass program, she has been a writer, script editor, director and producer of documentaries, TV drama, feature films and multimedia titles. Sharon has also held senior executive and board positions with Film Victoria and Film Australia Limited (now absorbed into Screen Australia). As Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Film Australia from 1997-2004 she led the company through a major and successful repositioning, overseeing production of some its highest profile titles, whilst restructuring the company’s operations and restoring the company to financial health. She holds a BA (Hons) and a Diploma of Education. Sharon brings extensive corporate governance and management skills to the WAT board, as well as a breadth of knowledge and experience of screen culture, screen business and education.
Daniel Speed – Board Member
Daniel Speed joined the Wide Angle Board on 23rd September 2008.
Currently a Producer at Southern Cross Television, Dan has also had experience working in community based projects running workshops for the unemployed.
With experience as a writer, editor, producer, actor, director and DOP of low budget short films, Dan has been involved in a number of Productions that Wide Angle has screened. Dan has also undertaken training with WAT, giving the Board extra insight into our training practices.

Carolyn Frichot - Board Member
Carolyn Frichot also joined WAT board on March 4th 2009. Carolyn brings a set of marketing and communications skills to the
organisation.
Carolyn has worked in a number of key media and business sectors in her 28 year career as a communications and marketing strategist
and journalist.
Carolyn’s strengths include creative and technical writing and editing for a broad range of print and electronic media, researching
markets and developing targeted marketing strategies, public relations and government lobbying.
Carolyn’s multi-media experience also includes writing, directing and producing corporate and information DVDs, TV and radio
commercials.
Carolyn is currently working on her first full length documentary feature film as writer/director. The Great Chase is the REAL
life story of the longest recorded and most dangerous ocean pursuit, to save the world’s ugliest fish.
George Underwood - Board Member
George Underwood is a television and corporate media producer/director with over 19 years
experience in the media industry. He has worked for all three commercial networks here in Australia
producing primetime television series; My Restaurant Rules, Changing Rooms, Location Location,
Sensing Murder, and RSPCA Animal Rescue to name a few.
He started as a camera assistant and worked his way up gaining experience as a sound recordist, cameraman, editor, director and writer. In the last ten years as a producer George has gained experience in all aspects of television producing including scheduling, budget management and concept development.
Kate Nash - Board Member
Kate joined the Wide Angle Board on March 16th 2010. She is currently a lecturer of Journalism, Media and
Communication for the School of English, Journalism and European Languages at UTas. Kate has also been a
media producer working across radio, television and the internet. She spent seven years at the ABC producing
everything from radio features to multi-camera events and television documentaries. She began her career as a
science journalist working on The Science Show (ABC Radio National) and Quantum (ABC-TV).
Kate is passionate about documentary (in whatever form). Her PhD thesis ‘Beyond the Frame: A Study in Observational Documentary’ looks at the practices of documentary production and the relationship between filmmakers and their subjects. She continues to be actively involved in documentary production for both radio and television.
Kate has undergraduate degrees in Science (Sydney University) and philosophy (UNE) and various industry qualifications.
Kath Symmons - Board Member
One of the founders of Roar Film, Kath began her career in advertising. In the early 90’s she set up her own consultancy as a
film and television producer. In 1996 she was awarded the Australian Film Commission Producer Fellowship. She then expanded the
business into documentary and digital media production. In addition to Kath’s role as Producer she also has the responsibility of
